"Sonorous and vivacious"

“In the introductory Prélude and Fugue in G flat (BWV 861) by Johann Sebastian Bach, Mr. Murtfeld emphasized the lyrical quality, while clearly profiling the parts in the Fugue. He demonstrated piano-playing of exceptional beauty in Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata whose wealth of facets he presented most impressively, yet without allowing it to fragment: harmonious stringency throughout. Vivacity, verve and vehemence were voiced by Liszt’s Fantasia and Fugue with the theme B-A-C-H (B flat); in the closing Prokofiev Toccata Opus 11, the pianist convincingly realized the composition's ecstatic drive.”
